Everything you "know" about Web 2.0 is WRONG

Smarts thumb resizedBut we're here to make it right. Brace yourselves, folks. This video is a doozy.

Personally, I think it's the best one in the whole Going Natural 2.0 series so far. We'll let Andy Edmonds off the hook for now and let another esteemed StomperNet faculty member take the wheel. Don Crowther's been in the secret StomperNet labs for the past several months, wrapping his arms around this whole "social media" thing you may have heard about. And he's uncovered the TRUTH about some of the biggest myths out there:

  • Social Media sites are filled with pre-teens, not viable prospects… WRONG!
  • Social Media site visitors don't spend money online… WRONG!
  • Social media sites are just a fad… WRONG!

Listen, we've been getting incredible results from our experiments, and our research indicates we're only seeing the tip of this Web 2.0 iceberg. And that's a GREAT metaphor because unlike other internet marketing opportunities, Social Marketing can be DANGEROUS to your business! If you do this WRONG, that "iceberg" will sink your business like the Titanic.

Fortunately for you, we've taken the time to figure out the SMART way to leverage this opportunity, and in this new video, we tell you what's up.

Turn off the phone, close your email and IM - you need to see this today.

Wow! You guys have the social media networking thing down!

2008 is becoming the year the internet marketing community really takes on & capitalizes on the "Attention Age Doctrine" that make these sites important to our business' future earnings.

This is another reason Stompernet is the premier community for forward thinking netpreneurs!

Thanks for the priceless content you guys have come up with.

Wow! This information is mind-boggling, but pleasantly so. I'm still reworking my site away from flash version to get up to speed with the previous disclosures. Now, I feel more inclined to set up a separate blog instead, to try this out, and just point to that site and see what happens. Thanks for a birthday present that promises super results.

    Don & Andy,

THAT WAS AWESOME!!! I don't know what happened to the formal announcement at 12:00 noon EST but at about 1:30 or 2:00 I got an e-mail from Chris Malta with the link to Video #4 about SMARTS. THANK YOU! I am new to internet marketing (see my two other posts in your forums) and don't even have my first site up and running yet but I am absolutely thrilled with the stuff you guys are producing. And the best part is, since I am only listening to Andy, Brad and the faculty at StomerNet (through only the free content that is available…since you haven't yet given me the opportunity to join StomperNet) I am building my site(s) using only the best info available. I am not getting distracted with other worthless or counter productive strategies.

Kudos to you all. Keep it coming. I will be one of the first to sign up for Don's coaching program for SMARTS. I can't wait for Wednesday! My credit card is ready.

Thanks guys, you all are the best. And thanks so much for caring about all of "us" enough to release so much valuable content for free. You could just as easily be greedy and keep it all to yourselves but you don't and that is what I love about you all the most.

    Thank you.

    Hi Don and Andy;
Thank you for the great information about social marketing. I have been following this type of information and yes, I can see it is rocking.

Don, you have spelled it out with a much clearer understanding. My business partner and myself have hesitated to make a move on social marketing with the fear of making a mistake. I can see this is the mistake as we need to "step out and make a difference." You know the deal "Do the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable."

Thanks again for the great video and I will still be here with "my nose pressed against the windows of Stompernet" and looking forward to any information you guys are willing to share.

As always, you guys are the greatest!!

    Can I just say… WOW?!?

I loved the video; there were a couple of techniques that I've been using already to promote a new business that I plan on launching next week, but I've been clueless to the value of bookmarking, and loved the information about Scribd. I've been looking for a place to upload my whitepapers and other text-based information. Video is great, but it is time consuming at best, and in the long run, how much interesting videos can you post???

    All in all, GREAT stuff!

  32. Posted January 7, 2008 at 5:52 pm

What a great, professionally produced video - and so very true.

It was even better to see some of my sites featured under the "Squidoo Marketing Strategies" screenshot which showed that I hold 7 of the top ten spots in Google (it was 8 but I forgot to ping my PR5 lens over the last few days!)

Those positions come from my blogs, my technorati tags, articles in ezinearticles.com and my Squidoo lenses.

I developed a strategy called the Squidoo-Google dance which builds on the interplay between Google, blogs, Squidoo and article directories like Ezinearticles.com.

I can confirm firsthand that Stompernet is really onto something here. I am anxiously waiting for the release of Don's SMARTS report. Best wishes for 2008 - the year of social marketing (last year was embryonic!).

Hey, I just needed to say keep up the GREAT work, I don't think I've every attentively sat in front of my computer for 50 minutes watching a video (and I'm a HEAVY computer user).

I like how, if you leave the video that you're watching, when you go back it remembers exactly where you left off. ;-).

I was poking around at some of the sites that you were speaking about in the video and I didn't switch my tab. But when I went back it knew where I left.

Long story short that REALLY made me realize that you guy think of everything!

Thanks Don for this great video. I have been using social networks and posting to social bookmarking sites for quite a long time now and know you can't be more right.

Those of you who are relatively new to social bookmarking please listen to what Don said - Do NOT abuse the bookmarking sites especially Digg and Propeller.

My Digg account got banned twice. Not because I was submitting trash but because I was submitting my staff only. You need to Digg other people's stories also. Keep it like 40:60 and you will be safe. It's crucial because if you get banned you loose all your links in Digg as they are all deleted with your account.

Excellent video! Why oh why did you have to release this now? It is going to get very busy… but I love it.

I think you are bang on! I've actually been doing this for about a week (but not to the extent that you have outlined tonight). I created a new site on Sunday 8 pm Pacific time and by Monday noon I was #6 on Google on page 1!

At the same time I've been reading everything you throw at me and watching all of the videos. It was probably video #2 that kicked me into action.

I took three weeks off work to get good at CSS, Dreamweaver, Video editing and Xara Xtreme (simply the most powerful vector graphics program on the planet) and Rapid CSS 2007. These tools along with the knowledge you've provided is going to really set me up well to take advantage of this next era.

This past month has been like my old university days all over again. I had three days last week where I crashed for the night at 4:45 am! I should also plug a this book I discovered on some material that someone sent to me… it might have been you.. but the book is fantastic! It's called "Four Hour Work Week!" by Timothy Ferriss.

I look forward to seeing your Coaching Course. If I can afford it, I will certainly be there. If the quality of it matches the quality of the free stuff… well… how can I lose?

    Great work guys..and gals!!

Great ideas. I plan on doing some of this tomorrow to promote my site. I would do it now, but it's late and I'm bummed that the Buckeyes just lost to LSU. We may have lost the last two, but at least we've been in the title game 3 of the last 6 years.

    Go Bucks!!!

I have just finished watching the Social Marketing video and I found it very informative, and easy and exciting to watch. Mainly I wanted to say that it is good to know how valuable these social marketing sites really are. Of course I have been hearing about them, and hesitated to spend a lot more time jumping on the bandwagon of every new trendy technique or site that came out. Hearing this new research and the information you have shared about them makes it easier to decide to take the plunge, now that I know it will be well worth my time.

I have 2 ecommerce websites and am getting ready to create another one with info-products, and none of them to date is getting enough traffic to make them profitable. I am so excited to learn all of the techniques you have shared on your videos, and especially this last one.

It's very late now, or I would jump right into creating a Squidoo lens and putting some articles on Scribd. You can bet that's what I will be doing tomorrow!

Thank you, guys, for sharing all of this information - and for free! I really wanted to be part of your Stompernet university, but because none of my sites was earning any money, it was just not in my budget. Hopefully that will change in the future!

Thanks to Don, Andy and Stompernet.

There's a lot of truth behind this video but it is nothing ground breaking - using social media to build links and traffic has been used for at least a year.

I'm also pretty confused by the scribd part as it says by putting links within your documents you will get SE friendly links - but the example given is a word document that is loaded in a flash player - so these links aren't seen by Google.

Eitherway a good video for newbies.

The video is very appealing and exaustive, but misses a forgotten word - "Ethics"!
It shows the general marketing strategy to follow, mentions the tools and the ways to implement the best legal practices and, yet, always respects the individual.
This is quite ethical. As this word is not mentioned there, I just wanted to bring it forward, where it could be noticed by anyone.
Best wishes to you, Don Crowther and "task force". You all well deserve Professional Success and Personal Happiness for 2008 and beyond!

    Hey Stompernet

You guys are so hot on this! Thanks for the free info and strategies to help us get started. This is such an exciting era to be in and I'd like to thank Rich Schefren who directed me to your Social Marketing video.

Having worked for one of the fastest growing social media sites of 06 & 07, I can truly say that this is an opportunity that no-one wants to miss. And can I also add, tread carefully, like Don says DON'T DONT DON'T BULLDOZE your way into a community with spamming and trolling activity.

The community will be your media: they can build you up but set a foot wrong with them and they will kill you and all your efforts. Love them and they'll love you back.

This is ethical marketing at it's best and thanks to Stomper and Strategic Profits they're showing the way.

Looking forward to Wednesday to get my report!

    Thanks again

I have some question about Google stop word..

Do you mean it is bad to target keywords or put key title with google stop word such as the words "HOW" and "AN"..

I plan to target this keyword, "how to start an internet business" because it show 286 million search results when I typed it at http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en

I'm pleased you are leaving the *high cost* model and plan to make your Mentoring Program more financially accessible. Perhaps you will even consider offering different Mentoring Packages at different costs.

Good work folks. Thank you, Thank you. This is very exciting!

I just spend a bit of my time listening with great interest to this video. I plan to listen several more times while I take notes and digest all of this new info about social media.

My one request is for reasonable and fair cost for membership at stomper net. As a some business person along with other expenses an $80 dollar a month fee is way to high for me and other small business owners.

However I do appreciate the free information that hopefully will jumpstart me into entering the social media party. After all good manners and the desire to met new people is like throwing a party. We plan the party, games, rereshment and send out the invites. If we do it well and offer a evening full of valueable interaction with others we are all rewarded.

Thanks the 4 ideas are invaulable and I appreicate it.
